Alcohol commission raised from 7% to 12%; new “Used” category at 7%

Last updated Sep 28, 20264 sourcesEffective date unconfirmed (the change itself is confirmed officially)
IN SHORT

Beer, wine and spirits: 7% → 12% (+5 points). A new “Used” category at 7% was also added. The change is confirmed on the official page, but the platform hasn't stated the effective date.

What to do

4 items
  1. Separate the confidence in the change from the confidence in its date

**That the change happened: High confidence.** The official “TikTok Shop commission fees” page currently lists “Food & drinks 7%* / except the following subcategories at 12%: beer, wine, spirits” and “Used 7%”. **Effective date of Sep 1, 2026: Medium confidence.** The platform doesn't state a date. Our basis is that the official page was updated at 22:34 on Aug 31, 2026 (with the FAQ updated four minutes later at 22:38), and that one explainer article explicitly calls it the Sep 1 change.

  2. Confirmed: these rates didn't exist in May

An article that republished the table while stating the official “last updated 2026/05/12” (published May 18, 2026) lists 7 categories at 7%, with **“–” (no exceptions) in the food & drinks exceptions column**. The words “Used”, “beer”, “wine” and “spirits” don't appear once. The Internet Archive copy of that article from Jun 10, 2026 shows the same content, so it wasn't edited later. Another article from July also lists only four exceptions.

  3. Many explainer articles still show the August table

We checked major fee explainers updated on Sep 2 and Sep 9; none reflect the alcohol and Used changes. **When you cite a fee table, always check when the source was last updated.** Opening the official page itself is the surest way.

  4. The four exceptions in place since May haven't changed

Within Household goods (9%): towels, household detergents, kitchen rolls, sponges, tissues, toilet paper and trash bags are 7%. Within Baby & maternity (10%): infant/follow-on formula is 7%. Within Beauty & personal care (10%): beauty appliances are 7%. Within Pet supplies (12%): dog and cat food and dog and cat litter are 7%. These haven't changed since May 11.

Impact
Two changes were added to the category-based commission rates (7–12%) introduced on May 11. ① Food & drinks stays at 7%, but a new exception sets **12% for the beer, wine and spirits subcategories only** (effectively +5 points). ② **“Used” was created as a new category, with a 7% rate** (the lowest band). In the official table as of May, the exceptions column for food & drinks read “–” (no exceptions), and there was no “Used” row at all. The new Used category is consistent with “stronger sales of used goods”, which the platform named as a direction in its first-anniversary announcement (Jul 28, 2026), and with LIVE Auction's support for used goods (Apr 8, 2026; requires a secondhand dealer license and purchase records).

What we can read. Fee changes don't show up in weekly GMV right away. The only weekly figure published after Sep 1 is ¥2.46 billion for the week of Aug 31 (−5.64% week on week), and that drop reflects the post-sale dip. Whether the +5 points on alcohol changes how people sell can't be read until several weekly reports from September and October are in.

About confidence. That the change happened is confirmed in an official primary source. TikTok Shop's official “TikTok Shop commission fees” page currently lists “Food & drinks 7%* / except the following subcategories at 12%: beer, wine, spirits” and “Used 7%”. What isn't confirmed is the effective date. The platform doesn't state one. We use Sep 1, 2026 based on two points: ① the official page was last updated at 22:34 on Aug 31, 2026 (JST), with the FAQ updated four minutes later at 22:38; ② one explainer article explicitly calls it the Sep 1 change. Always check the effective date in your own Seller Center. We'll update this page, and record it in the history, as soon as we find an official document stating the date.
